My god, I was wrong!  Who would've figured that?  No, I wasn't wrong about my last opinion that Gore would win if he got the numbers in the recount.  Since he didn't get the numbers, all bets are off.

But I was wrong, because I thought there was a crisis brewing.  Today, however, I watched buffoonery, pure and simple.  Lawyers always crack me up.  No crisis there.  At this point it doesn't matter.  Dumb and dumber.  Full field test of all political machinery.  The legislature, the U.S. Supreme Court, all get to weigh in.  None of it matters.  The other side stole it.

Does that mean crisis?  At this point, I'm inclined to think not.  The vote is done, the talking heads have talked.  Both sides did stupid, undignified things, that only the mediocre could do.  Now there is just the wait, and who cares who wins?  There will still be injustices all across America, there will still be ugly, partisan fights, with the words Republican and Democrat used to designate our culture war.  Half of America can write books about how the other half sucks.  In the meantime, the addiction of both parties, Capitalism, will keep the country from collapse.

Somebody has to buy the books.

Perhaps, just perhaps, this is the best thing that could have happened under the circumstances.  Both of these guys are raw, neither is ready to be president - both know how to play dirty, but not how to do it while looking clean.  The one who wins now is the one who had the dexterity to win the street fight and the stamina to take the strain.  Maybe they'll be ready to try a real problem after this is through.  Nothing like the mideast crisis, but maybe they could convince the Brits to stabilize their position in the EU or something.

If there is a serious world crisis to deal with, I want David Boies to handle the case.  Is there any way to make him president?

Just a note: if there were more than two parties with a legitimate chance to win the election, this kind of thing wouldn't be happening.  It is only that these two parties are so established that pulling together a full compliment of attorneys is no problem.  Can anyone see Nader sending 20 suits to play tackle in a Florida Circuit court?

No, there is no crisis.  Just a circus.  Food for the comics, not for thought.  Make some popcorn and enjoy the fight.
